I often think that people reading this blog think why
should I learn how to draw a single line
The spaces around an object or the different shades of
grey.
When am I going to learn how to draw this is a total
waste of time?
I believe to produce great drawings you need to
understand the drawing process what happens when you put the first mark down on
that crisp white paper what is the message what is that mark saying to your
audience is it the correct mark for It I want to convey in the drawing have I
used the right composition and shading do I have too much information in this
drawing.
Will people have a look at the drawing and walk away from
it or will they at least stand and stare at it for five minutes or so what
makes them stand and stare what makes this a great drawing.
I remember when I was studying drawing at varsity my
lecturer asked us to draw a brown paper bag crunched up by the time we were
finished I had drawn the same bag more than fifty times that is practice
learning to see and understanding the structure and what to leave in or leave
out of the drawing a boring lesson but it taught me so much about the basic
elements of drawing
Are pretty much
the same thing and as we advance I hope you will see the value in these simple
exercises
